I was thrilled to buy this book for an upcoming cruise. I used the daily deal and ordered several without using the "look inside". I've used DK printed books for years. This edition is not the same as the book. There are significantly fewer photographs, maps, figures. I enjoy browsing the photographs to decide where to focus my attentions. You can't do that with this book. I think that it is misleading of the publisher/Amazon to use the same cover on both the print edition and the Kindle edition. I also think that the text description of the Kindle edition should clearly note that the printed book is not the same as this edition. Amazon will refund my money, which I appreciate.
The problem with many review guides is that they desperately try to cram too much in. I suppose if I were visiting a country for a year, I would want to see everything. For most people, however, you only have a week to hit the highlights. That is why I appreciate the top-10 books, which succinctly detail the 10-best of each category. We had a great time in Dubrovnik and this book came with us everywhere we went. Highly recommend this one.
While I really like the print versions of the DK Top Top 10 guides (and would rate them as 5 stars), the electronic versions are pretty bad. The Table of Contents is difficult to find, so it's difficult searching for things, and there's very little information each place/attraction once you've located them. This guide might be worthwhile just to see what places are worth seeing, but you'll definitely need another guide to tell you why and how to get to the places. A big disappointment!
I love the Top 10 guides. They have the fine graphics, pictures and other elements of the Eyewitness guides without the extra weight. They are pocketable and work on the fly. This guide covers all the places we are visiting in Croatia and is the ideal accompaniment to our trip. While not good enough for trip planning, it is the guide to go on the trip.
Even though it was hot, hot, hot in Croatia summer 2007 I carried this book with me and used it for reference....highly recommend since is light to carry in luggage.....Go to this lovely nation and explore. The people are eager to see visitors, are exceedingly polite and proud of the country. I will return, taking this book again. Hvala!
This guide concentrates on Dubrovnik and limited attractions nearby; as such, its perfect for cruisers or for hikers confining their trip to the Croatian coast. The list of "must see" attractions, restaurants (try 'Domino' for dinner!) and hotels is more than adequate if you'll be in the area for a week or less & works especially well for a long day from a cruise. The quality pull-out map is a nice bonus. I had three Dubovnik guidebooks on our trip and this ended up being the only one I used.
Not much more than what you could get off the internet.
