I love the recipes and the photos of pieces from my favorite majolica artists!
Wonderful pictures showing tools, techniques, and finished projects caught my eye when I first saw this book. Since owning it, I find myself opening it for artistic discovery and entertainment as well as for clear and specific information on techniques, processes and color theory. Ostermann has included thought provoking quotes from other artists. His own writing and presentation are elegant. This book sits on our coffee table for visitors when we're not viewing it for inspiration and guidance.

Maiolica style painting of pottery and ceramics has very much come back in style, with its most renowned practitioners female artists is Arizona and Florida, both of whose work has been exhibited at NCECA. I was looking for a technical book to enhance my understanding of how the top 21st Century maiolica artists in America product their brilliant works of art. This book fails because its photographs do not show any diversity in maiolica work. I got sick of seeing fish painted again and again. From a technique perspective, this book was useless, especially in light of its high price. "The New Maiolica" is essentially one artist's vanity publication, nothing more
All of the technique demonstrations are of the author's own work, and with no illustrations of the techniques themselves, only the finished products. It's all pictures of fish. I like fish, but I was hoping for a broader range of examples, color palettes, etc. The book wasn't very inspiring technically or artistically.
Not for a master class.
If you like fish but want to learn about Majolica this book is very helpful
this book helped me to experiment with more confidence, as well as explaining MANY techniques in great detail.
