Attached to this review, I will post a silent, full book flip-through video. I will also attach a few sample photos as well.Once again, Bioware has teamed up with Dark Horse to release an outstanding coloring book. This time, the book is based on Mass Effect (the previous one was Dragon Age.) The designs are detailed and fun to color. Some of them contain small and intricate areas to color.The designs include the characters I hoped to see from the game. The illustrations are by a group of artists (Juann Cabal, Ron Chan, Gabriel Guzman, Andres Ponce and Martin Tunica.) While I can see style differences in the designs, I think the illustrations work well together and the coloring book flows well in the story line. Many of the designs are beautiful and are elegantly drawn. The designs are on the right side of the page with the applicable quote on left side of the page.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing my coloring medium on the paper:45 great illustrations derived from Mass Effect trilogy and Mass Effect Andromeda.Designs printed on one side of the page with a quote on the back of the pagePaper is heavyweight, white, slightly rough and non-perforatedGlue BindingDesigns merge into the binding areaI could get the book to lay fairly flat for coloring by breaking/creasing the spine.Alcohol-based markers bleed through the page. If you use this medium, I suggest using a blotter page to keep ink from seeping through. I use card stock but a couple of pages of paper should work as well. It will bleed through to the quote on the back of the page, which doesn't bother me, but I want to note it if it is an issue for you.Water-based markers, India ink pens and gel pens do not bleed through the page. Some do leave light, colorful shadows on the back of the page.Colored pencils worked well with this paper. It has good “tooth†and allowed for applying layers of the same color to get rich pigment. I could also layer multiple colors well and I could blend both oil and wax based pencils easily with a pencil style blending stick.
This is an amazing book for MA fans. Art from both Mass Effect Trilogy and Mass Effect Andromeda. I would have given this 10 stars... but... there is no coloring page for Reyes Vidal and it breaks my heart.
Being a really big Mass Effect fan I thought this would be a great item to own. For fan's of the franchise I recommend this book if you like to fiddle with coloring. I honestly did not expect so much detail in every picture in the book. Makes coloring the picture fun, and I for one did not expect to attached to the book.Highly recommend to everyone. Makes me love the game even more.
This book has a great assortment of Mass effect characters from the anthology; Original trilogy in the front of the book, and the forth title--Andromeda--in the rear. It has fan-favorites such as Liara, Wrex, Garrus, Tali, etc. An area for improvement would be more pictures of the DLC stories; as they have great opportunities for coloring. Examples being the Lair of the Shadow Broker final boss, the final boss in Operation Overlord, or the Leviathan side-story. My book's spine broke apart when I tried to lay if flat, however, that makes it much easier to frame them!
I just received the book today and I am quite pleased. If you are a mass effect fan and a fan of coloring this is an easy buy. The book contains characters from the original trilogy, as well as new additions from the recently released mass effect andromeda. The pages are of decent thickness , but I still would hesitate to use markers of any kind. Overall very pleased and would recommend!
This is a fun book, I can see it taking a long time to finish. Pages are thick and nice quality. I'm using fine-liner markers and the ink does not bleed. Only reason this gets 4 instead of 5 is that I was hoping for slightly more Shepard pages, maybe a few scenes with Shep and 2 squad mates in combat.
Pages are thick which is great. Overall it's a good looking coloring book. I like the quotes on the back of each page. The only bummer is that the pages aren't preforated so that makes it a bit of a pain if you plan on trying to seperate a page from the book. Also happy they included characters from each game, including Andromeda.
I love it so much that I struggle with wanting to color it in, and wanting to leave it pristine.I guess I should just get another one.
