This is my second copy of this book. I purchased this book 15 years ago while healing from a very painful season in my marriage. This book was the greatest gift because it comforted me and taught me what forgiveness was, was not and how beneficial it was for me. I did not want to be unforgiving, but I also needed to know that what I felt would be validated and not condemned. This book addressed everything that I was feeling and then some. I still today feel so much freedom after reading this book and I believe that, though it takes time, once you understand what forgiveness is, you will be open to forgiving and enjoy the humility and freedom that comes with it.
I was quite disappointed in this book and only read about a third of it before giving up. It's poorly written and organized. I also don't agree with many of his scriptural interpretations although I consider myself a committed Christian. In my edition of the book, there were testimonials about the book put on the page before each new chapter which I found particularly off-putting. A good non-religious book on forgiveness that I greatly prefer is "Forgive for Good" by Fred Luskin. That was much more helpful to me.
Honestly, this is probably one of the most important books for the modern (and historical church for that matter) to read. We don't realize how much we are holding in and how much it affects our relationship with God. Of course we are loved by Him and none of that changes, but there is something about a lifestyle of forgiveness that brings you into the tender heart of the Father. I thought I was doing pretty well in this category and this book ended up *truly* uprooting some offenses I thought I had dealt with from my past. I feel so much more free and I now feel more equipped to work through conflict with grace. Thanks R.T.! I have read many books along these lines and this is far and above the best. You will not regret reading this book!
I recently discovered my husband of 16 years has been having an affair. He didn't come clean, I found out when he was fired from his job because his mistress was a co-worker's wife. I was devastated. I had no idea. I made him leave and haven't decided if we will ever reconcile, but the anger and bitterness I have been feeling toward my husband and this other woman was killing me. It's all I thought about day and night. I won't say that reading this book made all those feelings immediately melt away, but it truly got me started down the right path. The bad days are starting to be fewer and farther between. I can see the light now, and it's from putting into practice what this book teaches. Whatever grudge you harbor, you need to read thru this book and set yourself free. It's not for the person who has wronged you. It's for you. So take your life back! Thanks RT for writing this book!
I have needed this book for a long time. I decided to purchase it at full price and it is some of the best money I've ever spent! I have searched high and low on HOW to forgive and this book gave me the tools to begin my journey of forgiveness. Forgiveness for others as well as for myself. I think I highlighted and made so many notes...it would be easier just to re-read the whole book over and over again! Thank you R.T. Kendall for your stories, insights and lessons!
I thought I had already forgiven. I thought I was moving on. This book shed light on the fact that, although I had forgiven I hadn’t totally forgiven and there was no “moving on†happening in reality. This book didn’t saying much that I had not heard before but truth was presented in such a way that my heart was finally softened to enable the Holy Spirit of God to reach in down deep into my soul and change my attitude. I discovered that my perpetrator wasn’t actually my enemy. He didn’t intentionally hurt me and God didn’t need me to punish him. I can now pray that God will truly bless him and his endeavors.
If you ever have a chance to hear R.T. Kendall deliver a talk you'll know what an effective communicator he is and his teaching are Biblically based. Ridding oneself of unforgiveness and/or holding resentments for wrongs done to us is definitely not easy, but it is simple and using Dr. Kendall's method it can be trusted one hundred percent. The freedom that comes from having a forgiving heart is worth the effort to achieve, and it will bring peace and joy.
This is one of the most important books I've read in my 22 years of being a disciple of Y'shua Messiah (Jesus Christ). I've been blessed, corrected & changed. My heart was cleansed of blackness that was soo well hidden and I was healed of a hurt that has affected my entire 23 year marriage. I learned that I had unforgiveness, for people, that I had no clue I was haboring. I learned how dangerous Unforgiveness is. This is a book that I'm not willing to go without.
